Rosh Hashanah 5775

Blessed New Year, 5775 according to the Jewish calendar (see Times of Israel's article here). Today is the 1st of Tishri, the 7th month, the commencement of the sacred month where the two most important ceremonies will be celebrated,  Yom Kippur10th Tishri (3rd Oct evening) and Sukkoth (Tabernacles) on the 8th October. This is especially significant year for me as we enter the day of atonement, the shofar will be blown on the Year of Jubilee (Lev 25). The root word, Jubilee comes from yovel, a ram's horn (shofar). Why is the shofar blown?

To announce the coming of God on the Feast of Tabernacles ("God will dwell with humanity") and the repentance needed from Rosh Hashanna climaxing on Yom Kippur. Just as the 7 angels blow their shofar (trumpets) in the book of Revelation announcing the imminent coming of Christ and the kingdom of God on earth (Rev 11:15; 12:10), the blowing of the trumpet means God will raise up leaders in this End-time. Leaders that can give a distinct sound even as the apostle said "if the trumpet does not give a distinct sound, who will follow?" (1 Cor)
